Most bicycling crashes occur in urban areas because much more bicycling, especially by less-experienced bicyclists, occurs in urban areas.

The often-repeated claim that bicycle helmets "reduce the chance of serious injury by up to 85 percent" is based on flawed 'research'. Like seat belts and airbags in autos, bike helmets don't prevent any crashes; they simply *may* reduce the extent of head injuries in the event of a crash. Nevertheless, like occupant protection in autos, routinely using a bicycle helmet is a wise measure.

The most effective way to improve ones safety as a bicyclist is to complete bicycling skills training, preferably from an instructor certified by the League of American Bicyclists. Learn how to safely and comfortably operate your bicycle on the roadway as a driver of a vehicle, following the uniform rules of the road for all vehicle operators. Bicyclists fare best when they act and are treated as drivers of vehicles.Allen Muchnickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14352620984793441549noreply@blogger.com
